Running an inspection
The Autoentic app drives the flow: you choose INSPECT, pick your name, enter the VIN, measure the panels the app asks for, and submit. Expect around 10 minutes per vehicle once you're set up.
Before you start
- Your probe is paired to the tablet. See Pairing your probe if this is your first session.
- You have the vehicle's VIN — visible on the windshield or on a sticker in the driver-side doorjamb.
- You know which tier the customer booked — Metal Panels or All Panels. The app measures the panels the booked tier requires.
Step-by-step
-
Choose INSPECT. The app opens to a probe-connect screen, then a mode-select screen with two cards — INSPECT ("Score a used vehicle against factory specs") and REFERENCE. Tap INSPECT.
-
Select your name. The app shows a screen of tappable inspector-name buttons for everyone registered at your shop. Tap your name. If your name isn't on the list, tap Add new inspector and register yourself — the app asks for your name and phone number.
-
Enter the VIN. Type or scan the 17-character VIN. The app resolves the year, make, model, and factory color in the background while you move on — you don't wait for it.
-
Measure the panels. The app walks you through the panels one at a time. For each panel: touch the probe to the panel surface, wait for the reading to register, lift, move to a new spot on the same panel, repeat. The app prompts you when the panel is done and advances you to the next one. You can retake a reading if the probe slipped.
-
Review and submit. When you're done measuring, tap End Session. The app shows every reading, grouped by panel. Tap any reading to add a short note (for example, "near dent — probe contact may be off"). When you're satisfied, tap Submit. The app uploads the session, you get a confirmation, and the customer receives their record by email.
What you'll see when it works
- A success confirmation in the app once the upload completes.
- Within seconds, the session shows up under the booking on your partner dashboard, and the customer gets an email with a link to their record.
- Your shop's copy of the record lives on the partner dashboard indefinitely.
Typical inspection is about 10 minutes
A typical inspection runs roughly 10 minutes once you're set up. Your first one may take longer while you learn the app's rhythm.
